The powerful women of Wakanda face new challenges and threats in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It's an emotional sci-fi / action film from Marvel Studios that has audiences buzzing while pushing the film to the #1 spot at the box office.
That's no big surprise. We knew going into the weekend that this movie was going to be at the top of the box office numbers. We did not know however, that the film would be this good. It was an achievement worth sharing. Disney and Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever set a record $180M November opening. The film knocks off Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire from that record which held the month’s domestic box office opening record for nine years. Wakanda scored slightly higher than Disney’s $175M+ estimate. Worldwide start for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is $330M.

In regards to admissions, EntTelligence reports that Wakanda Forever pulled in the second-most for an opening weekend this year at 12.7M, after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ 13.7M. The sequel’s opening reps the third-highest of the pandemic era after Spider-Man: No Way Home ($260.1M) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($187.4M).
The long-awaited sequel to the 2018 smash hit “Black Panther” is streaking to box office success riding a powerful wave of word of mouth and positive and even emotional critical reviews. The praising of the film for honoring the late Chadwick Boseman and pushing the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the future was another strong element in the films opening weekend success.

Because fans never really had a chance to say farewell to Chadwick Boseman, the late franchise supersta, one of the attractions to the film was the quickly spreading notice that the film had several emotionally satisfying tributes to Boseman. Writer, director Ryan Coogler (pictured above with Boseman) gets plenty of praise for guiding the film through delcate waters.

The film had lots of strong action sequences that featured an army with various powers. skills and fighting styles. It was captivating. Those kinds of elements elevates word of mouth and social media trends. “After weeks of a post-summer slowdown, ‘Wakanda Forever’ delivered a strong reminder of the power of an epic Marvel movie to deliver blockbuster-style revenue to movie theaters,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore.
“Wakanda Forever” represented 94% of all foot traffic at theaters domestically and accounted for nearly 100% of all premium format showings over the weekend, according to EntTelligence data. Comscore’s Dergarabedian noted that the film should spark some much-needed momentum heading into the holidays, as it has limited competition, with no major blockbusters opening until Disney’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” on Dec. 16.
“Positive reception should help propel this film in the weeks ahead as fans embrace the heartfelt continuation of the Black Panther story and the MCU moves forward into its next phase,” said Robbins of BoxOffice.com.
